Who Should Participate in Strategic Planning?
Organization stakeholders’ participation in strategic planning is key to the plan’s successful translation into action. Everyone in the organization should, at some point, be involved in the strategic plan. People tend to own what they help create—this allows for the constructive utilization of different views and information. Surely, not all the participants in the strategic planning process will be visionaries or strategic thinkers. However, all input should be valued. This allows everyone to gain exposure to the bigger picture and the strategic thinking process, and will in turn, increase understanding and empower participants. It also works to create a common culture throughout an organization and reinforces the need to get behind the organization’s future direction.
